When some people see this car, they either panic because they never seen anything more beautiful than this, dump into their pants because they are jealous of someone else having this car, or go out and buy this car. When I see this car, I see nothing more than overpriced piece of mercedes junk. If you really think that this car looks nice, then you need to visit an ophthalmologist. First of all, it has a giant nose, which makes it looks like stuck a viagra inside the frame. True, it looks better than the new SLS, which looks like a shemale prostitute that ran transported here from 70s. It's headlights are somehow not representing Mercedes. Its retro looks probably torment old grandpas. They probably remember their times back when they used to build pyramids, because that's how old the car looks. Anyways, this one looks better, obviously. This one is more powerful, but it's not better looking than any other car! If I were to buy a super car, I'd rather betray my pride and go out and buy Porche Carrera GT, than even sit, no, even look at this car. That's how I feel about the SLR.
Want to talk power? This car originally cost $450,000. But what you got under the hood was worth even less. McLaren does 0-60 in 3.6 average, 1/4 mile in 11.2 seconds at 130mph and has a top speed of 203 mph. On the skidpad, it does an impressive 1.16g. But is it faster than Nissan GTR? Let's keep in mind that GTR starts at 85 grand. It does 0-60 in 3.5 seconds, 1/4 mile in 11.5 seconds at 120mph, and a top speed of 198 miles an hour. On the skidpad it does 1.12g, which is .04 gs less than McLaren. But, if you add about 2-3 grand for tuning the car, you will achieve better results, and will embarrass all the McLaren drivers.
This car has some speed, but the looks suffer a lot. Designers from Mercedes were probably under influence while designing this car.
When you hear the abbreviation SUV, In US we think black Escalade with giant 24s. In Europe it's BMW X5 or Mercedes G-Class and in Japan its Toyota Land Cruiser or Infiniti EX. But which one of all is the best? Let's go over each one of them one by one.
P.S. Numbers before the names are not ranks, they are just numbers.
1. BMW X5
For a long time, this car has been the German hitman, until the new generation X5s. They are plain embarrassing, ugly, and what's worse- they've lost that X5 spirit -that spirit of showing off, leaning out, and not paying the lease. BMWs overall have lost that true BMW spirit. They became more like regular everyday cars, they don't deserve to be called luxury. They are made cheaply, they are uglier than ever, they are slower than ever, which means, they are not BMWs anymore.
2. Range Rover
Most of the rich people in the US buy this car, thinking it makes them look cool or maybe it just looks nice to them, but that's not the point. This car's garage will be Land Rover service center. It does look very nice, I can't argue with that, but it breaks down so easy, and so many idiots go out and buy this car, and start tuning it, that you loose all that will to buy this car. You don't even want to sit in it. Engineering and quality of this car is probably the worst of the worst. Considering the fact that this car was built in U.K., and only some cars come out to be good from U.K., such as McLaren, Aston Martin, Jaguar, this one is not one of them. Even though they don't belong to BL anymore, they still have that bad BL gene, a gene of making low quality cars.
3. Mercedes G500
This car is probably the best European SUV that's out yet. It managed to keep it's Mercedes spirit up, and that label G, which spells out "Genius", everything is the way it used to be. It has enormous amount of space inside. My uncle has the Brabus model. When I sat in it, I almost got lost. There was way to much space left. It looked kind of old-fashioned to me. And one more thing that annoys me is the squared shape, but that's all the way it's suppose to be. This is the car that deserves the medal of honor. This car truly symbolizes Mercedes, and what's more important, it symbolizes Germany.
4. Cadillac Escalade
This is that American "Muscle Luxury SUV". This is the choice of most of the mobsters and gangsters. But, it's not the best. In fact, it might go to the "worst SUVs ever made" category. It's cheaply made from inside, it doesn't look so special, it's plain dull and boring, and it's stupid to own one of these to, because you will be throwing your money away. This car truly symbolizes General Motors and it's almost copying America. There's not enough space inside, it's filled with stuff you don't need, and what's worse, it's overpriced, and when I say overpriced, I mean embarrassingly overpriced. I would never buy this car in my life. Even if you pay me to drive it, I still won't.
5. Lexus LX570/Toyota Land Cruiser
This car costs a lot of money. It's much nicer looking than Porche Cayenne, and it's more powerful than X5 or G550. And out of all the cars, this one is the one that was put together like God himself came down and gave instructions on how to build this car. This is like Noah's ark of our days, this car will last forever. You can't say it's too much stuff in it, but you can't say that it's lacking something, because it does not. This car is what defines perfection. Unlike BMW, it actually has very nice leather seats. Unlike the Mercedes, it looks like a SUV. It has crawl-control for off-road, and what's more important, it's safe! What else do you need from a luxury SUV?
6. Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon
This car looks like it has weight problems. Some people might find it nice looking. I admit, it does look pretty nice. But it's made very cheaply, just like every other GM car. It's seat belts are very uncomfortable, and for an SUV, after a small hit, you can say "bye bye" to $2000 for a new bumper. True story: GMC Yukon hits a Subaru Legacy. Legacy had couple scratches on it and a broken tail light. GMC? Broken headlights, bumper, radiator sheet. These cars are not worth the price they sell it for, and from inside, they are nothing like a luxury car.
7. Porche Cayenne
New Cayenne looks like an unsuccessful mix of Mercedes, Mazda and Porche. I still can't get over that ugly and jerky look in front and those Mercedes style tail lights. It looks nothing like Cayenne anymore. It costs nothing like Cayenne either, and it lost all those real materials which were replaced by fakes. They even came out with the hybrid model! It's the worst thing you can ever do! If you are a European car manufacturer, you should make a diesel car, not a hybrid!? That proves how dumb Audi is, and how incompetent Porche are.
8. Infiniti FX35
I personally don't like the looks of the car. They simply don't match. It looks like a Russian that drank Sake for the first time of his life. By looking at the expression on that face, you understand that that Russian is rather stick with Vodka. This car looks unsatisfied, greedy and every other quality of a very rich man. But unlike every other luxury SUV, this doesn't feel like SUV at all. This doesn't even feel like it's luxury. It's quick, it's fast, it's fun. It's got that GT-R gene in it. Nissan just couldn't keep it in themselves, they had to express it some way I guess, and they did a pretty good job, and I think they should keep it up!
9. Audi Q7
This car looks just like a Touareg witha bigger radiator. Come to think of it, it is a Touareg! After all, Audi belongs to VW right? So this car, is a Touareg, which means, it's very simple looking, there's just way to much stuff on it, they overloaded the instrument panel, it's engine is extremely underpowered for an SUV and just like the Porche, it's cheaply put together, in order to be more "green" and to "save people money". But as a result, they made a car that's even worse than any other Q7 ever made. Audi hit a record of making stupid and senseless and yet overpriced cars.
10. Volvo XC90
Volvo XC90 is the simplest out of all in the list. It looks nothing like an SUV, just a regular every day car. Yet inside, it's full of stuff. It's put together like a tank, almost impossible to break through. No wonder this is considered the safest SUV out of all. Volvo knows what they make. They put everything they got in their cars, making not just their customers happy, but themselves proud as great car makers. This car, although simple and inexpensive, is holding tight in our list of best cars, just like it's parts hold tight together. It's definitely worth the time and the money.
Out of all the cars, I decided to pick 3 best ones. Here are the results. This time, number is the rank.
#3: I was thinking which one should come here, EX35 or XC90. I couldn't just ignore the Volvo. Not just because of people might think that I like Japanese cars to much, but also because the EX35 is not SUVish. So the 3d place goes to Volvo XC90.
#2: There was also a competition for the second place. I was thinking, which one should I give the second place, the Range Rover or the G550? My heart was telling me to pick the Range Rover, but it just didn't have what it takes. So the 2nd place goes to G550.
#1: There was no competition here. No other car would be able to take this podium. The winner of the competition is Lexus LX570/Toyota Land Cuiser!
This car is my second most hated, right after Prius. This car is so ugly, it's so pointless and plain useless, that Mercedes didn't want to put their name
on it. Instead, they called it "Smart". This car is not Smart, this car is Useless. You get into an accident, airbag will kick you out from the back window (if there's one), or you will be choked to death. It's not fast, it's not fuel efficient, it can't fit more than 2 people in there. It's useless!
2. Bugatti Veyron
VW was bored, so they decided to make a car that has 1000hp and does a top speed of 255 mph. They had to use a giant W16 and 10 radiators. But guess what, McLaren did a better job with their F1. It did a faster 0-60 and faster 0-100. It handles better and it looks better. And it doesn't cost as much either and it's 20 years old. So what VW is saying that the only difference in 20 years is 15mph? You get an engine that has 6 cylinders more and 200 more hp, and yet, it's slower! That proves that VW are truly incompetent in what they are doing.
3. BMW X5M
X5M is an not an O.K. car. It's fast, yes. It does 0-60 in 3.5 seconds, that's just as fast Nissan GT-R and it's 1.7 seconds faster than M3. It is ugly, you can't argue with that, but overall, the car is pointless. Why would you need a 3 second SUV, where are you going to unleash it? Track? No way! This car will be sliding all over the place. Straightline? That's why there's Shelby GT500 for. If you want a luxury and you want a bimmer, get the regular X5 or 7 series, but if you want speed, and again if you want a bimmer, then get the M3. There's no need to buy a Hybrid, and if you do, you will regret it soon.
4. Subaru Forester STi.
Yes, Subaru also has a pointless vehicle. I don't even know why they made this. I think they were drunk to even think of something as ridiculous as this. They made the same mistake as BMW did with their X5M. Just as X5M, it has faster 0-60 than the STi, but it's not faster around the track. It can't even do a slalom properly. So why would you waste your money on this? The good thing is, they don't sell it in the US, unlike the X5M. But if they would, I'm pretty sure many people would've bought it.
5. Hummer H1
This car was originally made for army, but later on, "civilian" versions of this car were mass-produced. Many people bought it, and I'm pretty sure they regret doing so. It's big, that passing through narrow streets of San Francisco for this car would be simply impossible. It doesn't just waste fuel, it drinks it like a Russian alcoholic drinking Putinka. Just like the Viper or Corvette, the joke is, it's not miles per gallon, it's gallons per mile. So why would people, even though they know all this, go out and buy those cars? Just because they think it's "Gangsta". You know what's not going to be gangsta, your empty bank account after one ride to San Diego and back to LA.
Every day I see Camrys and E-Class Mercedes with giant rims and body kits. What those people don't realize is that by adding all that stuff, they make their car suffer. In this post, I will try to prevent other people make those same mistakes as I go over little upgrades.
1. Rims.
I have to see this every day. I see Impalas and Civics with giant rims on them, and I see no point in doing so. In fact it makes the engine wear out faster. When you put giant TIS 22s under your car, you should realize that engine is suffering. It's trying to move those big heavy rims, but it can't, that's why it uses power that it shouldn't, which means, you get less power from your car. Handling also gets worse, as the car starts to oversteer. Stock rims are made so they match up with the car's performance. If you want to put custom rims, make sure they are the same diameter. With putting rims with a bigger diameter, it's recommended to increase the power of the car by at least 30hp. It's easy, just put exhaust or intake or better camshafts.
2. Visual upgrades and Aerodynamics.
When I say visual, you probably think of body kits and spoilers and side skirts and other stuff, and that's exactly what I'm going to be talking about. Just like the rims, car's body kit is also made so it matches up to the car's performance. For example, if you put a spoiler on a car, it will make it handle better, but it will make it slower because it increases downforce. There's specific level of each mod that will make your car do both: handle better and get faster, but picking correct one is the hardest job. Body kit also makes a difference. I see people changing their body kits on STis and EVOs, but they don't even realize how much slower the car gets. Such small things can have great effects on the car, and that's why you should let professionals pick everything for you. And again, make sure to have some power upgrades.
3. Power.
Let's say you want a car that kills anything and everything around. Exhaust and intercooler won't be enough. That's exactly when you spend over $2000 to make that happen. In some cases, you will have to spend 10 or even 15 thousand dollars. First thing to think about is Turbo. Turbo is probably the best LEGAL way to add some boost to your car. Yes, supercharger is also good, but it's not what you need. It doesn't give you as much boost as much as Turbocharger, since Turbo uses exhaust system and supercharger uses engine belt system. There's no need to get a turbocharger if you won't race. If you want it so you can just show off, then you are a retard. Get yourself VW or Audi. Almost each one of them comes stock with a turbocharger. Another way is to upgrade the engine, but that's only if Turbo doesn't give you enough power or the stock engine is not able to stand all the external power. But there's another thing you should be concerned about. When you upgrade the power, you want to make sure you upgrade the handling as well. If you don't, then you will turn your car into a muscle car. Also, make sure to add some mods to the transmission, but that's only if you add over 300 hp on the car.
4. Handling.
As I said before, suspension is the key. If your car is equipped with twin turbos and high rev engine, but is running on stock brakes and struts, then you're screwed. You won't be able to turn, and neither brake. Brakes cost from 200 to 5000 dollars and more, depending on the brand of the brakes. I highly recommend taking your car to dyno to check how much power you have after each power upgrade, so you know exactly what else to upgrade. You must keep the car in constant "sync". If you don't, then you won't get that perfect racing car. If you have great suspension that costs over $10000 and you have the stock engine, you wasted your time and money then. Good suspension slows you down without enough power to support that suspension. So instead of all that, you should spend $2000 on power and $3-4k on suspension, but that's for starters. Handling does not get better just because of struts and shocks and sway bars, and brakes. It also consists of some basic upgrades, or should I call downgrades that will make your car lighter, handle better and even make you some cash, and that is Weight Reduction.
5. Weight Reduction.
Name says it all. Weight reduction is when you decrease overall weight of the vehicle. That means increasing handling capabilities and as I said before, making some cash. You don't necessarily have to strip the whole interior. You can put lighter seats, foam filled interior, lighter doors, even lighter windows. It WILL make your car faster and WILL make it handle better. Great example is Lancer EVO 9 RS. It's "cheap" interior is the key to such good handling. It's light Recaro seats give you more comfort than leather seats, and confidence during the race. And to save weight, they even removed electronic window roller, and added classic manual one. You can simply take out the interior panels, stereo, especially AC if you got one, rear seats, some panels in the trunk, sunroof glass and the whole mechanism, spare wheel and more. Trust me, it will make a difference.
Upgrades from 10 dollars to 10 thousand dollars. Whatever you do, don't forget the main thing: Keep everything in sync, so you get the perfect car.
Top 5 Safest:
1. Subaru (All models) All of the Subarus are top safety pick without a question. 5/5 Front and side crash ratings. Without a question, Subaru is #1.
2. Lexus LX570/Toyota Land Cruiser
Without a doubt, this is the nicest looking SUV that's out yet, but above all, it's probably the safest SUV that's out yet, and that's why it takes 2nd place in our safety competition
3. Volvo XC90
Swedish people sure know how to make cars. This XC90 gets 9.9/10 for Safety, and it's almost perfect. If I were buy a European car, this would've been the one.
4. Honda Accord
Honda always makes perfect cars. None of them ever have engine problems. In fact, in past 15 years, there has been 0 i-VTEC that ever failed. But this time, they increased their safety ratings too. Overall grade for Honda Accord is 9.8/10. It's almost perfect, but it can't be as perfect as the car itself.
5. Lincoln MKX
Last but not least, Lincoln MKX. With side crash ratings of front 4/5, rear 5/5, sides 5/5 and rollover 4/5, this car blows away every other American "SUV".
Top 5 Most Dangerous:
1. Smart
Mercedes embarrassed themselves by building this car. It's plain ridiculous and useless. If you get into an accident, the chance that the airbag(s) will pop out are very low, and if they do, they chance that you will fly out from the back of the car is huge. So one way or another, you're going to die.
2. Chevrolet Corvette
Yes it looks nice and yes it's fast, but theres one thing. It's literally made of plastic, and if you corner (notice I said "If you corner") the seatbelt holder will fly out of it's place. It's so dangerous that they were afraid to even test it.
3. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (all of them but 10)
King of the track, supercar killer, WRC favorite. To reach all of those reputable ranks, Mitsubishi had to get rid of a lot of weight, and that includes side airbags. So if you get hit in the side, the chances that you will get under my uncle's scalpel are 60% (fact, side crash ratings 2/5).
4. Dodge Viper
Same story, just like corvette, fast but doesn't turn, the only difference is that this one might be a little bit safer, but it still is stupid to buy neither.
5. Toyota Prius
This car is my hated of all. As much as I love Japanese cars, this one is like Smart mobil. This is not as green as you think, but it's not what we're talking about right? Lets get to the point. This car is a lunchbox, you take your hand out of the window and it turns, God forbid you do it on a freeway. Every side is 4/5 except side passenger. So there's a 20% chance of dying in an accident.
Buying a used car is unsafe, especially if it's turbocharged. Engines are mostly raped on those cars, and cosmetics are even worse. I was looking at this EVO 9 MR that I was thinking to buy. Used, $13k, 55k miles. Rear diffs were blown, front body was horrible (not stock). BBS rims were replaced with some fakes, and the stock Recars were replaced with EVO 8 Recaro, which is probably the ugliest Recaro seats ever. But then what should you buy? A brand new Evo? Of course not, it costs well over 35k, just like the STi. S4? Not worth even thinking of. TSX? If you have extra 40 grant to spend, then it's a perfect car. But this is about fast cars for under $25k. Here are couple that I found:
1. Subaru Impreza WRX
Price: $25, 495 Does an average of 22 MPG AWD, Wide body, Turbocharger, Stereo 265 horsepower Boxer engine. This car is probably the best in the list. It's AWD, Turbocharged, and above all, it has all the comforts of a regular car. It's a little over 25k, but it's better than nothing. It's safe, it's fast. It makes a perfect track car.
2. Honda Civic Si
Price: $24, 955 maximum configuration It does average of 25 MPG It has a 199 hp VTEC engine with a redline of 8000 rpm. Unlike the WRX, this is only FWD. It's not faster than the WRX, but around some corners, you might be getting out quicker just because of the high-rev VTEC. The max configuration offers you boat load of features, such as Satellite Navigation. It's under 25K, it does pretty high avg mpg, what else do you need from a car?
3. Mazdaspeed 3
Price: $23,340 Does average 21.5 MPG
263-hp, 2.3L DISI turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Unlike the WRX this is FWD, but it's on the same level as the WRX. In fact, in the last battle between WRX and Speed3, WRX lost. The only advantage it had was AWD, but even with that it couldn't tackle the Mazda around the corners. We'll see what the new WRX has to offer.
4. Scion TC
Price: $18, 800*
This baby does 27 avg mpg
It has a 2.5 liter I4 2AR-FE engine producing 180 hp. It looks more like accord. It doesn't have much options yet, because it's brand new. It's not the fastest in the list, although after couple add-ons, this baby will smoke everything on it's way. It costs 18k, and drop about 7k on top and you got yourself suspension and turbocharger.
5. Volkswagen Golf GTI
Price: $23,664
Does an average of 26 MPG
Has a 147kW 2.0 litre turbocharged V4 engine. If you read my older posts, you would know that I hate VW's. This one is probably the worst of all, but it got into the list just because of the price. Yes, it does have a 2L T V4. So what? It's extremely underpowered. It has a redline of just 6100 RPM. It looks just like every other golf, it's small and ugly, and after all, it's a VW.
